DELIVERING CLEANER COOKING ON THE GROUND

Our work spans Uganda and Nigeria, where millions of households still rely on traditional, inefficient cooking technologies.

UGANDA:

TWENTY YEARS OF IMPACT

Around 88% of households in Uganda still rely on charcoal or firewood for cooking*, according to the International Energy Agency.

Since launching in Kampala in 2006, Impact Carbon has partnered with local manufacturers to produce and distribute nearly one million cookstoves across Uganda, from the shores of Lake Victoria to the foothills of Mt. Elgon. This makes us one of the largest cookstove programs in East Africa, and our longevity speaks to something crucial: when you build with communities rather than for them, the impact endures.

NIGERIA:

EXPANDING ACCESS IN AFRICA’S LARGEST ECONOMY

Around 70% of households still rely on firewood or charcoal for everyday cooking**, placing pressure on household budgets, forests, and the climate.

When we launched our Nigeria program in Abuja in 2021, we set out to help accelerate the adoption of energy-efficient cooking in the continent’s largest economy. Today, we partner with several manufacturers across the country, having produced and distributed over 290,000 improved cookstoves in just a few years. From bustling cities to remote villages, Nigerian families are cooking more efficiently, saving money, and reducing their carbon footprint.
