CEIHD is now Impact Carbon!
October 8, 2009
Dear Friends, Partners and Colleagues,
It gives us great pleasure to announce that the activities of the Center for Entrepreneurship in International Health and Development (CEIHD), formerly a research center at the University of California, Berkeley, have been moved to a new home: Impact Carbon, an independent nonprofit organization.
Impact Carbon is a nonprofit carbon project developer with expertise in generating carbon offsets for improved cookstoves and other household energy technologies that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and indoor air pollution. We retain CEIHD’s original mission of alleviating poverty and improving health and the environment, working with local partners to develop projects that facilitate dissemination of health-enhancing technologies.
Drawing on the power of science and entrepreneurship, Impact Carbon leverages carbon finance to develop and scale these projects, using the financial returns to benefit local partners and local people in the communities we serve. In providing commercialization support to stove manufacturers in developing countries, we offer leadership, carbon tools and business development expertise to improve indoor air quality. Ultimately, we seek to increase the accessibility and affordability of health-enhancing technologies to all people.
Impact Carbon has a legacy of household energy expertise, successful project implementation, and a mission-driven commitment to social impact. We are currently originating and developing new projects, raising investment and philanthropic support to finance new projects, and developing and providing project management services, tools and methods for the field. For details, please visit us at http://www.impactcarbon.org.
Impact Carbon retains CEIHD’s board members: Dr. Nap Hosang (Chair), Dana Charron (Treasurer), Evan Haigler (CEO), JoAnn Dunaway, Professor Kirk Smith, Sylvia Keita, Jesse Patel, and Dr. Stefan Maxwell. We will continue to collaborate with researchers at the University of California, Berkeley and other premier academic institutions and organizations to offer the most effective project development services.
We are excited and energized by this transition. We acknowledge the important contributions that so many of you have made to our growth. We wish to express our appreciation for your advice, your patience and your trust during this transition and look forward to working with you!
Sincerely,
Evan Haigler
Executive Director, Impact Carbon
